We Surprised the Rax Out of Him!

Last week Mark rolled up with a post about Rax Restaurant, and how he wondered if anybody remembered them, and if they even still existed.  Well, Dave did a little digging and discovered one (of 11 left!) in the little town of Joliet, only an hour away from Chicago!  So, we had planned on meeting up on Saturday, and Dave and I decided to surprise Mark with a road trip to Rax.  I roll up to Dave’s apartment Saturday afternoon, and Dave greets me with a, “Bad news… Mark forgot”.  Strike one for the Rax surprise;  I go home to nap away the rainy Saturday afternoon.  We step up to the plate the next day, and the 3 of us… JUST the 3 of us (we can make it if we try!  {i know it’s 2;  but this blog is mine!}) hop out onto the highway down to Joliet.  And lemme tell you, Mark has NO idea what we’re doing or where we’re going, so we tell him we’re going to do a photo shoot in an abandoned train car.  Then, we tell him we’re going bury him alive where no one will ever find him.  We have SO MUCH FUN TOGETHER!!!  AnyRax,  running out of excuses and distracting conversation, Mark begins to get a bit suspicious.  So, Dave has to pistol-whip him, and knock him out.  Not really;  fortunately it didn’t come to that because we finally roll up on the Maginificent Rax Restaurant!  Sounds of Joy are heard from the big, bearded kid in the back seat.  We win!  Oh, and we took some pictures…

I just got an e-mail from the legal department of the Smurfs asking us to stop stealing their bit. Rax that.

Weird! I used to manage several different Rax Restaurants in the Northwest Ohio area and was wondering if there were any left myself. On my way home from a weekend trip I stopped for gas in Bellefontaine, Ohio and ,low and behold, a Rax right in front of me! I had to get the good old BBC (Beef , Bacon, and Cheddar) my all time favorite sanwich. It was more delicious than I remember and exactly the same as it was 15 years ago! I bought a second to take home for later.

Greg, I got the BBC when we took Mark to Rax and I’ve got to tell you, that sandwich is really good even without the added benefit of nostalgia. I was quite impressed.

For some reason, Bellefontaine, Ohio just sounds to me like the type of city where you’d find something from your past.

Odd, but it is one of those towns that chooses to pronounce its name differently than it appears. “Bell Fountain” is the way they pronounce it, not “Bella Fontaine” like it looks. Anyway, if you guys need any more worthless Rax trivia I could probably answer it all……sadly enough………..that’s pronounced “Ee-Nuff” :)

Yay! I found the previous Rax post because I was trying to prove to my husband that they existed. I’m so happy that not only do they still exist but I only have to drive an hour to get to one!
