Batterymouth’s own Zack Whittington and the rest of Long Pork will be performing at the Apollo Theater Studio every Saturday night at 8pm through May 23 and this Saturday is their opening night!
The sketch show they’re going to be performing is called Soda and for those of you who are familiar with these guys, it’s an expanded version of the show they performed at the Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival. And, keep in mind “expanded version” = “new, never-before-seen material.” In my honest opinion, these guys are crazy funny and I personally can’t wait to see some new material from them.
Speaking of, Mark and I will be there at this Saturday’s performance so if you want to watch Long Pork and hang out with Batterymouth, this Saturday is the night to do it. Come help us laugh at Zack, you know, in a good way…

In two days our close friends Nipple Competition will be opening for our third of six performances at Chicago’s Apollo Theater Studio. You may have seen these guys recently performing sketch comedy at the Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival or doing long form improv around town at any number of places.
It’s always a special treat for us to do a show with Nipple Competition, because it always feels like a mini-reunion. You see, all three members of Batterymouth and three out of four members of Nipple Competition all used to be on the same Harold team at the iO Theater together called Skeleton Attack. The team was together for about a year and a half and it’s how a lot of us cut our teeth on the Chicago style of improv. A discerning eye could probably come to the show and pick up on some subtle similarities in the performance styles of our two groups…or they could just watch the show and laugh their ass off. Either would be appropriate.

Saturday night I caught Team Submarine at the Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival (which has one more weekend of shows!) Their opening itself blew me away. Nate Fernald and Steve O’Brien came out to Bow-wow-wow’s, “I Want Candy” throwing smartees into the audience. But they didn’t stop there. Then came the slices of bread. Then bananas. Then raw potatoes, and a pineapple. A pineapple? Yes, a pineapple. And trophies, and a VCR, and a TV, and a keyboard to an old computer, all while we yelled and raised our hands for more, as they gave out a bike, and finally a 10 foot long metal folding table they crowd-surfed up through the seats. The song over, the prizes given away, and panting, Steve O’Brien announced, “We’re Team Submarine. And we’re gonna need all of that back!” Music kicked back in, and off we went in reverse tossing back the perishables and the thrift-store gems.

Playing themselves, their conversational form of sketch comedy dealt with a team breakup, tech problems, and touched on a few games like “truth or dare” (or “truth or dump” as Nate use to play). If you missed the show, check out their website. They’ve already gone back to their base in NY, so keep an eye out for these guys if you make it up to the big apple in the near future. Cause they’ll be throwing fruit at you. And you’ll like it.

Hey everyone. Just thought I’d invite everyone out to see Batterymouth’s own Zack Whittington perform with the hilarious Chicago sketch group Long Pork. They will be performing this coming Thursday at Chicago’s SketchFest. Seriously, I love these guys and their show is very quirky and a lot of fun. The show is worth seeing just for the “Magician Scene” alone…yes…magic…sparkly magic. It will be fun. It will be funny. It will be fantastic. Many laughs will be had by all. I will be in the audience and I hope to see you there. Here are all of the details.
