Thanks to everyone who came to our show on Wednesday – our second of six long form improv shows we’re doing at Chicago’s very own Apollo Theater Studio. Our suggestion was “Venus” and the show included Zack burying Mark in a garden co-op, Mark hitting beers out of my hands (and the air) and onto the floor and me hitting both of them with a roll of paper towels.  I think there were some scenes in there too.  Good times.

For this run we’ve been going all Brechtian and hanging out with folks in the audience pre-show, which has been a good time.  One of the people we chatted with before the show this week was Pat Dwyer of the sketch comedy group Kerpatty.  Outside of the standard pleasantries, we ended up talking about a lip dub video that the group had recently put on YouTube which all three of us had previously watched and enjoyed.  In an interesting follow-up to my Katy Perry blog post, the song that they’re lip dubbing just happens to be “I Kissed a Girl.”  Irony.

Considering the fact that all three of us got a kick out of the video, I figured I might as well share it with all of you at home players here.  Enjoy.

I saw you last night on my  compy.  You were all ga-ga over this dude named Wally.   Whatevs.  I can see why you were diggin’ him, with his tank-tread and bedroom eyes.  So he can survive a rocket blast into space, and varying atmospheric conditions (douchenozzle).   I could too if I had the gear!

I realize you both have a lot in common– but let’s look at the facts:

Dude hangs with roaches.  Seriously.  That’s nasty.  AND he’s a song and dance man.  This may seem cute and romantic, but one day he’s gonna switch teams on you.  Whether it’s 3 or 300 years from now, binocular head’ll be gone and you’ll be left holding a bunch of old VHS tapes.

It’s time to lose the machine, and get with the dream…  man.  Your dream man.  I’m the man of your dreams– that’s whay I’m saying!   I know you’re a robot, and maybe I should’ve posted this in electronics, but you know,  I don’t see you as a robot.  To me, you’re a strong woman who needs a strong man.  And that man’s name is Zack.  And that’s me.

I’d totes like to meet up, if you’re interested.  Hit me back, and maybe we can rendevous at Sweet Occasions off the Damen Brown Line.  They have other things besides ice cream, or we can go somewhere else if you want.  No biggie.

Ciao Bella,

This Wednesday, long form improv group The Fling opens for us, kicking off our six week run of Wednesday performances at 8:00pm at the Apollo Theater Studio.  The Fling has been around in various incarnations since 2004 and they’re one of the Member Teams at The Playground for good reason.  Every time I’ve seen them they’ve done fun, patient, character-based scenes that are a real treat to watch.  Plus, they’ve got some real rockstar performers like Heather Svoboda and Jamie Buell who are always solid no matter what project they’re involved in.  So, come help us kick off our run at the Apollo Theater Studio.  Come see The Fling.  Come have a good time with Batterymouth.

A little while ago, we  sat down with Michael J. Roberts of ShowBiz Chicago to talk about our upcoming run at the Apollo Theater Studio and you’re in luck, because the interview was recorded for the ShowBiz Chicago Podcast.  It’s fun, boisterous and laid back, so if you’re looking for a formal discussion with Batterymouth, this ain’t the inteview for you.  However, we do talk about how we met, improvisers we find inspiring and how we came up with our current form.  And, yes, those are actually martini glasses clinking in the background.  Give it a listen.
